Simon Alonso
Born to a Spanish father and an Australian mother. He started as a researcher in University of Melbourne and has qualifications in Geology and Gemology.
Simon Alonso graduated as a Gemologist and mining Engineer from the Gemological Institute of America NewYork and California, having spent time in deep-level gold and platinum mines. Mr Alonso worked as a project financier for Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt and London, specializing in independent projects and public–private partnerships.
In 1994 Mr Alonso co-founded globalCOAL, a company that played a central role in the commoditization of the thermal coal industry, the business was acquired by industry players, including Anglo American plc, BHP Billiton plc, Glencore International AG and Rio Tinto plc after successful run. He was also co-founder of the pioneering Spectron eMetals trading platform for category I and II members of the London Metals Exchange.
Simon Alonso established Alomon Gems Lab in 2000. Under his astute guidance Alomon Gems Lab has evolved into a modern multinational that operates to world-class standards with state-of-the-art infrastructure. His leadership has enabled the company to innovate and expand into numerous markets and achieve global growth and recognition.
